2026 Solo contesT

This 3rd Annual Solo, Quartet, and Duet Contest will take place at our rehearsal room in Wigan on  Saturday 16th May commencing at 10.00am. Adjudicated by Chris Robertson
​This is a great opportunity to prepare for your upcoming  GCSE, A Level or university exams or even just a solo you are doing with your band. You can play any piece, including slow melodies,  Air & Variations and concerto excerpts. A prize will be awarded to the best slow melody and more. Please see the rules below for more information.

Rules

1. Only following instruments allowed to be used in solo / ensemble
   1. Eb / Bb Cornet
   2. Flugel Horn
   3. Tenor Horn
   4. Baritone Horn
   5. Tenor and Bass Trombone
   6. Euphonium
   7. Eb/Bb Tuba
   8. Percussion (request percussion list) 
2. The judges decision is final.
3. Stated age must be on day of the contest, competitors may enter their own age group and above.
4. All competitors must provide an unmarked copy of their music for the adjudicator and observe all copyright rules; copies must be destroyed after the contest.
5. Competitors will only be adjudicated on the first 6 minutes of their performance on indication that the adjudicator is ready to start. If your piece contains more than 1 movement, please specify which movement(s) you are performing.
6. Only ensembles may have a conductor if required.
7. Closing date for entries is 26th March
8. Pre draw will take place on 30th March
9. The entry fee is £5.00 per participant. E.g. Solo entries cost £5 and a quartet would cost £20. Each participant will get £5 off the price for a ticket to the Gala concert.
10. An email will be sent to you to inform you of payment details, which must be sent to confirm your application
11. An accompanist will not be provided but facilities for a backing track or pianist will be provided.
